In 2012 I was awarded a Leverhulme Artist in Residence Award in conjunction with the Leicester University’s Centre for Urban History. Over 9 months I made a series of works celebrating the city’s manufacturing past and the wealth of industrial buildings still standing, even if no longer used for their original purpose. This view from the canal, with the Victorian knitwear factory framed by the new skyline of the Highcross Shopping Centre seemed to embody the fall and rise and re-invention of the city by it’s buildings - layers of history.
